Following the major court victory of Epic Gomes, Fort Night is finally returning to the iPhone platform in Australia. An Australian court found that Apple and Google had been restricting competition through their application shop rules and payment systems, which cleared the way for a return to this hot-run game.
For mobile players, this is a long wait. As early as 2020, Epic and Apple had been brought down from App Store fortnight because of a conflict in payment. Since then, the game has been absent on the iOS platform in Australia and legal struggles continue.
Epic has been working to promote more equitable rules to give developers and players more choices. Earlier this year (May), Epic obtained a major favourable ruling in the United States, ending the iOS ban of Fort Night for nearly five years and enabling the game to return to App Store in the United States.
Today, with this new ruling, Fort Night will be able to return to the iOS platform. However, it does not return through Apple Store, but will land through Epic Game Shop (iOS version). This is not only a big step for Fort Night fans, but also a significant step towards achieving the vision of multiple mobile games and application download channels.
Tim Sweeney, Chief Executive Officer of Epic, stated that the ruling was a joint victory for Australian developers and players. Apple and Google are reportedly not fully satisfied with the verdict and may still question some of it. For the time being, however, the doors had been opened and the return of Fortress Night was only a matter of time.
